Cats were the most revered and important species in Ancient Egypt. They were the favored pets during the Chinese Song Dynasty. In traditional Japanese culture, cats were associated with good luck and good fortune. Thanks to the phenomenon of viral videos and internet memes, cats have yet again bolstered their rankings in modern culture. There’s no doubt cats are having a moment. Montreal photographer Andréanne Lupien noticed this trend and set out to create her series Crazy Cat Lovers.

At the heart of today’s cat culture are their beloved humans. Without whom, their feline friends wouldn’t have endless YouTube videos and Instagram accounts boastings thousands of followers. Lupien decided to reach out to these cat owners, both friends and strangers, photographing them together in their homes. She then used photoshop to multiply the cats over and over again. Each image gives us a glimpse into a cat lovers life as they’re surrounded by their furry friends, playing, jumping and perching on top of the refrigerator. The playful images celebrate today’s most popular pet and remind us why we love them so much.
