Berlin-based photographer Stephan Tillmans brings us round two of his abstract ‘structures of light’ in Luminant Screen Shapings. This time he shoots black and white

TV screens, a departure from the colorful works in the predecessor series Luminant Point Arrays. Each image is captured from a different TV and shot at the very moment the screen is switched off. The varying results are created by the length of exposure, timing, and time the TV has been running before the photo is taken. Tillmans’ ghostly, futuristic forms appear like apparitions—caught right when “the picture breaks down and is abstracted to its essential element: light.”
