When we first launched the Feature Shoot Emerging Photography Awards two years ago, we knew we wanted to create a special platform for up-and-coming photographers of all genres, but we could never have anticipated what it would become. Over the course the last few years, we’ve received thousands of submissions from photographers working all over the world and have been able to boost the careers of eight emerging artists. This year, we’re upping the game.
For the third annual Feature Shoot Emerging Photography Awards, we are opening the playing field to more photographers than ever by giving each judge the power to select their own group of winners.
Alison Zavos, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Feature Shoot, will pick five winners to receive the $750 cash prize, while Sam Barzilay, Creative Director at United Photo Industries, and Moshe Rosenzveig, Founder and Director of the Head On Photo Festival, will each select three to five photographers to exhibit in Dumbo, Brooklyn, and Sydney, Australia, respectively. Those selected to be exhibited at United Photo Industries will be made by Ken Allen Studios using their state-of-the-art ChromaLuxe metal printing facilities.
Stephen Pierson, Executive Director at ArtBridge, will select two to four photographers of his own for outdoor exhibition in New York City plus a stipend of $400-$1000. Susan Spiritus of Susan Spiritus Gallery will hand-pick two to three photographers for promotion and consideration for gallery representation. Elizabeth Breiner, Editor of Nineteensixtyeight, will also choose two to four photographers to represent.
Peter Berberian, Director Brand Development at Agency Access, will select three photographers to receive an hourlong consultation to help further their careers as well as a list of 8,000 email addresses belonging to photo editors, publishers, and industry professionals. Emily Nathan of Tiny Atlas Quarterly will award the brand new SOLAS camera bag to three photographers of her choosing.
This year, we could have anywhere from five to twenty-nine winners, depending on the judges’ choices, meaning that we will be able to give a platform to more photographers than ever before. As always, winners will be promoted and announced over Feature Shoot proper and all of our social media platforms, with an estimated reach of more than one million readers.
To apply, photographers may simply submit online with up to five images of any genre at 760 pixels on the shortest side and titled with your first and last name and sequence number. Please also include a brief bio to accompany your images. Each person is allowed only one entry, with a fee of $35 for each submission.
The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2017.
We’ll be featuring some of our favorite entries on our blog and through social media so apply today!
