The best music photographs, the ones that get hung not only in galleries but on the walls of dorm rooms around the world, are those that capture the atmosphere of a live performance or backstage moment in electrifying detail while maintaining enough mystery to leave us returning again and again, wanting more. On April 3, 2015, from 6:30-9:00 PM, at ROOT, New York City, The BlowUp, a new quarterly event series organized by Feature Shoot, will bring together 15 iconic music photographers to reveal the irresistible stories behind some of our favorite images.

This inaugural edition of The BlowUp is thrilled to welcome photographers from all corners of the industry, each of whom will present a 3-5 minute story behind an image of their choosing. Featured images range from Bob Gruen’s hypnotic portrait of Bruce Springsteen to Ricky Powell’s shot of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol casually strolling down the street, these images are the kind whose stories beg to be told.
