Photo du Jour: Circus Bear Becomes Part of the Family

This is not your typical family photo. On assignment for Spirit Magazine, Ryan Donnell spent a day capturing the James Cristy Cole Circus, a traveling spectacle run by the Plunkett family. Originally hailing from Texas, producer James Plunkett comes from a family of four generations of performers. The circus is named after the Plunketts three children and offers everything from motorcycle daredevils to tigers. Donnell caught up with them in Gretna, Nebraska where families attending the event were able to purchase a photo with the circus’ performing bear. Shot on a Hasselblad, the image shows this particular little girl and bear to be equally dubious of one another.
