Documentary photographer Li Jie’s exhibition departs from his previous work to explore the ethereal, ever-changing life on the Malaysian Sea. The striking black and white photographs are expansive and crisp, the vastness of the ocean filling every frame. Shot over a period of three years, Jie was inspired by the beauty and simplicity with which the locals spent their lives. Allowing their world to influence his own, Jie asks the question, “How do we confront a society that is a sea of desire?”
At Sea: The Works of Li Jie runs through December 9th, 2013 at the Inter Art Center & Gallery in Beijing, China.
