Danielle Scruggs has done it all, from photographing stories for The New York Times, Buzzfeed News, People, and other influential publications to serving as a picture desk editor at Getty Images. She’s written for Teen Vogue, Ebony, Observer.com, Artsy, and Essence, and she’s been an artist-in-residence at influential organizations ranging from the Vermont Studio Center to the Center for Photography at Woodstock. As the founder of Black Women Directors, an ever-expanding digital library of Black women and non-binary filmmakers, she’s also uplifted others, created a flourishing community, and helped shape the world of photography and film in 2021.
