There is an inherent mystery in landscapes that have been forgotten by society. The crumbling house at the end of the road or the condemned local cinema complex downtown simply begs to be explored. Photographers have been scrambling over “no trespassing” signs for decades and for our next Squarespace group show, we want to see your images of these abandoned spaces.
Will Ellis is our judge for this call, the Brookyln-based photographer a longtime expert in discovering forsaken landscapes and architecture. From haunting asylums to overgrown resorts, his website Abandoned NYC is an extensive catalogue of urban decay across all five boroughs and beyond.
The top three winners will receive a free one-year subscription to Squarespace, the intuitive website publishing platform that makes it simple for photographers to build creative and professional sites with their combo of award-winning designs, hosting, domains, and commerce. Selected photos will run on the Feature Shoot website and be promoted through our social media channels. Copyright remains with the photographer.
To submit, email up to five images (620 pixels wide on the shortest side, saved for web, no borders or watermarks) titled with your name and the number of the image (ex: yourname_01.jpg) to submissions (at) featureshoot (dot) com with “Abandoned Spaces” in the subject line. Please include your full name, website, and image captions detailing where these abandoned spaces are within the body of the email.
Deadline is September 12th.
