Photographers, Enter for Your Chance to Win a Complete Website Makeover from Squarespace

JP_Opening_01

The result of Jessica Pettway‘s Squarespace website makeover.

Photographers, it’s that time again! Our friends at Squarespace are offering the chance for one promising photographer to win a complete website makeover. You may have been excited by the transformations made to the sites of Brian Powers  and Jessica Pettway, two of our recent makeover recipients. While Powers was able to showcase his photojournalism through intuitive browsing capabilities that matched the aesthetic of his blog on the all-in-one platform, Pettway put her vivid photographs forward with a new stylish design that’s as eye-catching as her work.

Now it’s your turn! Based solely on your work, we will select one photographer for the opportunity to work with Squarespace to revamp your web presence. In exchange, the selected photographer will receive a free lifetime membership to Squarespace, along with a write-up on the Feature Shoot homepage about you and your work that will include before and after shots of the makeover process.

Squarespace celebrates the image in sites that are 100% customizable and incredibly easy to build and manage with their drag-and-drop tools. You can create professional web pages, blogs and galleries all in one place and set up an online store with their commerce feature, offering you more ways to market yourself and grow your photography career.

So, who’s ready for a makeover?

If you want to take part in this special opportunity, please email your website address to [email protected] with the words “Squarespace Submission” in the subject line by July 14, 2014.

The word intimacy can signify so many things. Though it is often ascribed to the tightly-woven emotional, intellectual, physical and sexual space in which a couple inhabits, it can also refer to the close relationships among family or friends, or simply the stillness in a moment.

We’re eager to see your photographic interpretation of this artistic concept! Please send us your best work channeling the theme of intimacy by July 11.

The top three winners will receive a free one-year subscription to Squarespace, the intuitive website publishing platform that makes it simple for photographers to build creative and professional sites with their combo of award-winning designs, hosting, domains, and commerce. Selected photos will run on the Feature Shoot website and be promoted through our social media channels. Copyright remains with the photographer.

Keren Moscovitch, an artist, photographer, educator and curator is the judge for this competition. Her work explores intimacy and the intersection between sexuality and spirituality, including the series Me into You  — pictured above and also published on Feature Shoot — in which she explores these themes and the dissolving of boundaries within open relationships. Moscovitch also teaches at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. Her work has been exhibited internationally  and she has been featured in publications including New York Magazine, Time Out New York, The Huffington Post, and Playboy.

Phoot Camp: A ‘Photo-Geek Camping Trip’ for Photographers Around the World

“Suddenly you step into this world where people think like you, they understand you; and you are instant friends. You get introduced to all kinds of photographers and interests.” – Garrett Cornelison, Phoot Camp alum.

Think the adventure of summer camp — bunking in twin beds, campfire sing-a-longs, mess hall dining, and meeting potential lifelong friends — is a concept relegated to the recesses of memory? Think again. After a year-long hiatus, Phoot Camp — brainchild of former editor-in-chief of  JPG magazine and founder of PictoryLaura Brunow Miner — is once again up and running (and free to accepted students) thanks to a new sponsorship by Squarespace. Set this year in the desert environs of Joshua Tree National Park in California (see this year’s roster here!), it may be the grown-up photographer’s answer to camp, giving attendees the opportunity to allow their creativity to unfold in a like-minded group of self-proclaimed “photo nerds” for four days of nonstop shooting in a photogenic locale.

Photography Website Makeover: Jessica Pettway

JP_Opening_01

A photography student at School of Visual Arts in New York, Jessica Pettway makes photographic works that take ubiquitous objects to new heights with candy-hued color blocks and a push-and-pull play of hard masculine lines with feminine curves. Her work pushes boundaries of the themes of gender and man versus nature in unexpected ways, elevating still life and portrait photography out of a staid genre and into a realm of unpredictability. Her website presence was previously relegated to a very simple website which didn’t align with her photographic aesthetic, and a Tumblr blog where her personality shines through with roving images that twist and turn though a meandering homepage as a diaristic reflection of creativity. She was in need of a site to complement her multimedia blog, while allowing the energetic images to speak for themselves through a cohesive and clean navigation.

Thus, we chose Pettway for our second website makeover, sponsored by Squarespace. We spoke to the artist about the creation of her new site — which she says was astonishingly intuitive to make — and reveal before-and-after shots of her website during its revamp.

The art of collage knows no boundaries: It could be the assemblage of images and/or words from publications, creatively placed to recontextualize original meaning; cuttings arranged to create a mood board; in painting, a Surrealist’s dream landscape; in decorative works, Decoupage; in the reassembling of photographs, Photomontage. And today, there is a also a myriad of digital software and apps for creating artistic photographic mash-ups.

We’re eager to see your interpretation of this artistic concept! Please send us your best photo-based collage work by June 25th.

The top three winners will receive a free one-year subscription to Squarespace, the intuitive website publishing platform that makes it simple for photographers to build creative and professional sites with their combo of award-winning designs, hosting, domains, and commerce. A Tiny Space with a Big Vision: A New Art Blog Curated by Sabrina Bajaj

Screen shot 2014-06-10 at 2.26.37 PM

Ever wish you could aggregate all the bright and creative people you meet in one place? Sabrina Bajaj did just that when she founded a tiny space toward the end of 2013. Part gallery, part online forum for conversation, a tiny space is Bajaj’s solution for showcasing the work of photographers, illustrators, and experiential artists she comes into contact with on a daily basis as a senior art producer for the ad agency, 72andSunny.

While its title may be small, the nature of the project is expansive in scope. And Bajaj’s vision is focused; her aesthetic on-point. Her website, created with Squarespace, is a tightly-curated grid of artists you wish you had only discovered for yourself. And when you click on a thumbnail image for each artist, their world is cracked open in the form of a clean, rich gallery of images and an interview in their own words.

Read on to discover how Bajaj designed her website to reflect her style and see a curation of seven of her favorite photographic works.

This contest is being judged by Austin, Texas-based photo editor, Alyssa Coppelman, who is a picture researcher for Harper’s Magazine and Oxford American, and a contributor to Feature Shoot. Her writing has also appeared on Hatje Cantz’s fotoblog and Slate’s Behold blog.
