Chris Stein on His Effortlessly Cool Shot of Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop

On April 3rd, Feature Shoot hosted the first ever evening of The BlowUp, a new quarterly event in which we ask about fifteen phenomenal photographers to tell the stories behind one of their favorite images. The theme was music, and Chris Stein—who in addition to being a photographer, is the guitarist for punk rock band Blondie—chose his snap of Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop sitting pensively backstage during Iggy and David Bowie’s 1977 Idiot Tour. Although Bowie preferred not to be caught on film, Stein found the time between sleepless nights on the road to shoot with a handheld flash, capturing Harry sporting her $3 shades, purchased on a night out on The Bowery.

The next BlowUp event will take place on the evening of June 26, 2015 at ROOT (Drive In) from 6:30-9:00 PM, and this time, the theme will be subcultures. We have some incredible photographers lined up to speak including Larry FinkPhillip Toledano, Martha Cooper, Brian Finke, Andrew Hetherington, Gillian Laub, and Deidre Schoo. More photographers will be confirmed soon, but in the meantime, you can purchase tickets here.

The BlowUp is generously sponsored by Agency Access.
