While documenting a Quinceañera in San Pancho, Nayarit, Mexico-based photographer Jillian Mitchell captures an unexpected moment of austerity amongst the festivities. While their older sister prepared for her fifteenth birthday, a pair of brothers brought out their toy guns and began to play. Mitchell explains that the a quiet coastal town is free of the violence that characterizes many of the global news headlines surrounding the country. Like children from all corners of the world, however, these boys cannot entirely escape the influence of violent imagery.
