You can almost hear each person's story through the items they had with them...the lady with the shiny belt and sparkly items didn't quite understand why she was there; the conflicted life of the person with the record and Christian pamphlets; the black valise's owner crying all the way to the asylum and for years afterwards; the collection of photos - a window into times and places when things were happy and normal - and the gun to feel safe... Of course, I'm projecting. But I can almost hear the echoes of hard shoes on glossy floors as they walked into the last building of their lives. These make me want to cry.
