Brian Kennedy is a portrait and documentary photographer living in Brooklyn, NY. This series is part of a pro bono project that was done for the Animal Care and Control of New York City. He writes:

‘The purpose of the project was to bring awareness to the high volume of animals that are brought into shelters on a daily basis, as well as document the challenges that rescue officers are faced with on the street. Being an owner of rescue dogs myself, and an animal lover in general, this is a topic I have always cared about and was happy to devote some time to help the cause.

‘I decided to focus primarily on the physical act of catching the animal and the challenges that led up to these moments. Sometimes picking up a stray dog or cat could take a few minutes with some friendly coaxing and a nice meal, other times it could take a few days of tracking through empty lots and urban debris just to get close’.
