sara naim photography

Sara Naim is a Brooklyn-based photographer. After graduating from the London College of Communication with a B.A. in Photography in 2010, she went to intern at Ryan McGinley’s studio in New York. Her work has most recently been shown at the Photokina fair in Cologne, Germany and The Third Line gallery in Dubai. Of this series, ‘Beethoven-Moonlight Sonata’ she writes, ‘This body of work looks at translating sound into a photographic image. Ludwig Van Beethoven’s symphony vibrates through milk. He composed this piece in the early 1800’s for his blind pupil and lover, Giuletta Gucciardi. Gucciardi said to Beethoven that she wished she could see the moonlight. Beethoven then composed a piece about the moonlight’s reflection off Austria’s Lake Lucerne, called Moonlight Sonata’.

caleb charland photography

Growing up in rural Maine, Caleb Charland spend much of his childhood helping his father remodel their family homes. These experiences instilled an awareness of the potential for the creative use of materials, and the ability to fabricate his visions. Charland earned a BFA in photography with departmental honors from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2004 and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago as a Trustees Fellow in 2010.

Of his work he writes, ‘As I explore the domestic space, from the basement to the backyard, I find ways to exploit the mysterious qualities of everyday objects and familiar materials. Each photograph begins with a simple question, ‘How would this look? Is that possible? What would happen if…?” and develops through a sculptural process of experimentation. This work combines my scientific curiosity with a constructive approach to making pictures. I utilize everyday objects and fundamental forces to elaborate upon experiences of wonder. All images are created in-camera without digital manipulation.’

Bobby Neel Adams photography

Bobby Neel Adams was born in Black Mountain, North Carolina, and resides in New York. After graduating from Goddard College in Vermont, he moved to San Francisco, where he lived and worked for the next eighteen years. Much of Adams’ photographic work addresses the transformation of the human body by aging and circumstance. In the late 1980s, he began using a photomontage technique he termed ‘Photo -surgery,’ in which photographs were altered through manual excision, collage, and sometime defacing of the subject. Adams remains a dinosaur, creating all of his projects on film and remaining free of the bells and whistles of Photoshop. His work is held in the following collections: International Center for Photography, the Houston Museum of Fine Art and the Norton Family Foundation among others. This work is from his series, ‘Couples’.

Maury Gortemiller photography

Maury Gortemiller lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia. He is currently a Part-time Assistant Professor at Kennesaw State University. In 2010 his work was included in the following exhibitions: Appalachian Photographers Project (Johnson City, TN), The Art of Photography (San Diego, CA), Fresh 2010 Emerging Artists Exhibition (Chattanooga, TN) and Group Show No. 36, Humble Arts Foundation (online exhibition) among others.

Of this work, ‘All-Time Lotion’ he writes, ‘My photographs are the product of image-making that is both intuitive (responding quickly to visual phenomena) and ambiguously choreographed. I am interested in reinterpreting and altering the intentionality of spaces and found items. Somewhere between instinct and cognition lies the overlooked residue of experience. This series maintains the semblance of ordinary, everyday things while investigating their latent conceptual meanings’.
