Billie Mandle grew up in California and Connecticut. She has a BA in Biology and English from Williams College and an MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art. In 2009 she received an individual artist grant from the Brooklyn Arts Council/NYSCA. She lives in Brooklyn and teaches at the Massachusetts College of Art and the International Center of Photography. Her photography documents modest objects that belie vast meanings- the confessionals in Catholic churches or the weeds used as model organisms for biology research.
