Kate Kirkwood is a photographer working from a farm base in the Lake District in England. While self-employed and working in book design and production, she has learned to take photographs in the between times, inspired by the environment and by poring over the images of the masters. In March 2007 she was invited to present her work-in-progress to a workshop on street photography at Photofusion Gallery in London, as an exploration of the possibilities of ‘rural’ street photography. Later that year she began compiling a serious portfolio after a photograph was selected as one of the final 40 in Tate Modern’s ‘How We Are Now’ competition.

These are wonderful photographs. It’s nice to see something so refreshing.
Exquisitely composed, decisive, street photography moments, all in the countryside. Rare and totally inspiring.
I lived in Williamsburg / Brooklyn briefly, mostly in Brooklyn Heights beside the B Bridge. I love your work, nice job.
